Death Valley and the Eastern Sierras offer a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in three million acres of extreme wilderness. You will explore undulating sand dunes, inspiring landforms, multi-coloured rock layers and water-fluted canyons in this desert of extremes. After meeting in Las Vegas you will have an opportunity to photograph the bright lights of The Strip before we head off to explore and capture some amazing landscapes.
Our first stop in Death Valley will be Zabriskie Point where we will photograph the classic views over the Golden Valley and Manly Beacon; there will be several opportunities to experience sunsets and sunrises. We will be staying at Furness Creek where we will venture out for sunset at Badwater, which is the lowest elevation in the United States; we will take a short trek out to the incredible salt polygons on the desert floor. We will then head to Mesquite Dunes where we will capture the first light on the vibrant amber dunes. (Staying Stove Pipe Wells)
From the edge of Death Valley we will travel through the Panamint Mountain Pass before heading into the Eastern Sierras and into Owens Valley. Our first stay will be at Lone Pine where an early morning rise is be essential to capture the Mount Whitney Peak framed by the Alabama Arch. From here you can imagine yourself in a Western film set, surrounded by the sound of gunfire as the cowboys and indians fight for their territories. Famous Western actors such as John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Gene Autry have made films here. We will head north to Mono Lake which offers a fantastic opportunity to capture its’ remarkable tufa formations at sunrise before heading back through Death Valley to Las Vegas.
