WORKSHOP SOLD OUT

This photography workshop will allow you to capture the stunning mountain scenery in the Julian Alps of Slovenia. Our first base is at Kransjska Gora where the scenery here changes dramatically to rugged mountains with pristine turquoise lakes. The mountain passes will take your breath away, especially the Mangart Pass that is the highest-lying road in Slovenia ending at the base of Mt. Mangart (2,679 m or 8,789 ft). At this time of year, the larch will be golden yellow to contrast against the blue skies.
Finally, we will spend four nights at a luxurious 5-star hotel located on the shores of Lake Bled in Slovenia. You don't have to go far to capture images of Bled Island with the Church of the Assumption which dates back to the 15th century.
We will be out most days before sunrise (weather permitting) with a break for lunch then shooting through until sunset. Even though we are photographing in Slovenia’s mountainous locations, there is no hiking involved as most locations are within walking distance of the vehicle.
We will meet at Ljubljana airport at 16:00 on the 14th and arrive back at the airport at 14:00 on the 21st. This photography workshop will affirm all you have ever dreamed of seeing and shooting in Slovenia.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
WORKSHOP – SLOVENIA

Join Tom Mackie this October for a breathtakingly beautiful, seven-day photography workshop in northwest Slovenia’s Julian Alps. With the first snows dusting the jutting peaks of Triglav National Park and the entire landscape aglow with the burnished autumn colours of the ubiquitous forests, you’ll be mesmerised by the sheer number of magical outdoor photography opportunities. And with Tom’s expert guidance, you’ll discover how to make the most of each one – from dreamy mountain vistas to divine churches, dramatic river valleys and tumbling waterfalls.

Slovenia workshop highlights

  • After meeting up at Ljubljana Airport, we’ll take a short drive to the charming ski resort of Kranjska Gora, which will be our base for the first three nights of our workshop. Just a few minutes’ stroll outside of the town lies the picturesque Lake Jasna. Actually two interconnected artificial lakes, it’s an idyllic spot for sunset images of the surrounding peaks reflected in tranquil turquoise waters.
  • Kranjska Gora is also the perfect jumping-off spot for Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s first Biosphere Reserve – some 325 square miles of unspoilt forested mountains, plunging ravines, pristine lakes and rolling alpine pastures. The Mangart Pass yields spectacular sunsets, while the crisp morning temperatures often give rise to inversions, trapping mist or cloud banks low in the valleys, with the mountaintops and trees peeping appealingly through.
  • We’ll also be exploring the bewitching Soča Valley, whose emerald-green river has carved out a series of stunning waterfalls and gorges through the limestone terrain. Access is via the Vršič pass – at 5,285ft, the highest in Slovenia, with magnificent views on the descent into Soča.
  • The base of our workshop wil be centred on the fairytale location of Lake Bled for 4 nights, with its medieval 11th century castle standing sentinel on a precipice overlooking its northern shore, and Slovenia’s only island, complete with an exquisite Baroque church.
  • Divinely photogenic churches are something of a theme for this area, and we’ll be focusing on two in particular – St Primoz at Jamnik, and St Thomas, both perched atop small hills, flanked by trees and backdropped by endless stacks of soaring alps. St Primoz is illuminated at night, which makes shooting at dawn or dusk a joy, while St Thomas is best captured in the morning, with the autumn sun providing its own natural spotlight. We’ll also be visiting Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest natural lake. Only half an hour’s drive from Lake Bled, it’s a wonderful place for peaceful landscapes and calm reflections of golden autumnal forests.
